Crochet is commonly associated with making home décor items and garments. It is less common to associate it with jewelry making. Although, it has become common to see jewelry artists venture into the realm of the fiber arts to complement their pieces.

For example, they may crochet with very thin metal wire and then add beads to create necklaces and bracelets.  As metal prices increment, creating jewelry by replacing metal chains with crocheted chords is quite common.

Using threads, fine yarns or felted wool to create jewelry instead of metal wire and findings,  can be beneficial to those who have sensitivity towards metals. The lighter weight of jewelry prepared with threads, fine yarns  or felted wool also allows the elderly to continue enjoying the use of attractive jewelry even when they can no longer carry the heavier metal pieces. Mothers of young children can enjoy using attractive jewelry pieces without the worry that their children will swallow small pieces of metal or glass.

Many crochet jewelry pieces take only a few hours to construct, meaning that they are projects that can provide quick gratification and instant satisfaction. You can check out the gallery below to see some of the pieces I have enjoyed making and wearing!

Michelle, I am so glad you liked them. You can hear about the pattern and the thread I used if you watch Episode 19 of the crochetcakes podcast on YouTube. You can jump to 13:35, if you prefer, which is where I talk about the earrings. Maybe you can make a pair of your own. Happy Crafting!

    About me:
    Caroline Rodriguez

Many years ago I discovered that there was a crafty side to me. Since then, there have even been times when I have considered taking up crafting as a full time job. But, I guess that is something I have heard most people who practice some craft say.  Someday... one day... Until then...  I guess I'll just blog about it. Thanks for being part of the crafty side of my life!
